To Raise Wonderful Hell (Memoir), Brooklyn, NY
In To Raise Wonderful Hell, I reconcile my upbringing, as the striving daughter of successful immigrants, with a commitment to authentically and inclusively parent my own child.
“My aim is to widen the lens through which readers view their own and others’ humanity, far beyond the strictures of ableist judgment.”
Julie Kim writes about motherhood, inclusion, and her experiences raising a disabled child in an ableist world. Her essays have been featured in The New York Times, The Atlantic, Cup of Jo, The Cut, and New York Magazine. Julie has worked in editorial roles at nonprofits and tech companies and currently serves on the board of City Arts & Lectures. She earned a B.A. from Brown and a Master’s Degree from UC Berkeley. Since 2022, Julie has been Vauhini Vara’s mentee at The Book Project, a program of The Lighthouse Writers Workshop. Julie is represented by Kate Garrick at Salky Literary Management.
