(Hybrid) Improvisations: Adam Shatz and Jake Lamar on Jazz
Wed June 26 @ 19 h 30 – 20 h 30
Join Visiting Fellow Adam Shatz and writer Jake Lamar in mapping out jazz’s transatlantic journeys from the 20th century to today.
Adam Shatz is the US editor of the London Review of Books, and a contributor to the New York Review of Books, the New York Times Magazine, and the New Yorker. He is the author of Writers and Missionaries: Essays on the Radical Imagination and The Rebel’s Clinic: The Revolutionary Lives of Frantz Fanon. While at the Library in June, Shatz will focus on a study-in-progress of avant-garde jazz and Black creative music from the second half of the 20th century to the present, investigating the cultural and aesthetic exchanges that Paris made possible for expatriate American musicians.
