Mississippi Girls (memoir) Port Charlotte, FL

Mississippi Girls is a coming-of-age memoir that explores race, gender, and religion in the Bible Belt. The book aims to break down purity culture as well as the lasting effect on women’s self-worth.

Leah Nicole Whitcomb is a writer and medium from central Mississippi. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in communication studies from Millsaps College in Jackson, MS. Her educational background informs much of her creative writing as she writes about systemic issues. Leah’s work focuses on Black girlhood, cultural issues, and the Deep South. Currently, Leah is working on her memoir exploring purity culture in the Bible Belt. A 2020 VONA Alum and 2022 WNBA Authentic Voices Fellow, her writing has been featured in Root Work Journal, The Rumpus, An Injustice!
