The de Groot Foundation’s Grants for Writers

COURAGE to WRITE Grants

These grants are meant to encourage and support writers as they further or complete a specific project. The Writer of Note Grantees are chosen from the pool of finalists for the COURAGE to WRITE grants.

We’re reevaluating our grant programs and will post announcements when applications reopen. Please check back here or on our social media for updates. In the meantime, best wishes with your writing.

It takes courage and character to be a writer. It means accepting the risk of revealing yourself and overcoming fears of putting your feelings and dangerous ideas right there on the page. ~Alan Rinzler
Courage is the first essential for a writer. ~Katherine Anne Porter

LANDO Grants

The de Groot Foundation collaborates with Barry Lando, award winning investigative journalist and former 60 Minutes producer, to provide the LANDO grants. Currently, the LANDO grants are for writers exploring the issues of and solutions to the challenges of migration, immigration or the refugee experience.

I’m honored to partner with Charles and Clydette de Groot to tackle one of the gravest problems facing the world today– the enormous rise in refugees and migrants fleeing catastrophic conditions in their homelands, desperate to start new lives in the globe’s more stable, prosperous nations. My goal is to encourage emerging authors to examine—via fiction or nonfiction, any aspect of this on-going challenge, from its varied causes to its impact in the “developed” world.  I am particularly interested in discovering potential authors and researchers with fresh ideas for solutions.  ~Barry Lando
