Eva Freeman

Jericho (Historical Fiction), Brooklyn, NY

In Jericho, During the dawn of African independence, Franklin Williams, a great champion of the race, will also participate in one of its greatest betrayals.

“Isaac Singer believed literature should “entertain” and “instruct.”  By entertaining the reader, I hope my work creates empathy for the overlooked and the unheard.”

Eva Freeman is a Lecturer at Baruch College and a former producer for ABC News. She is the founder of Dreamwood Writers, an organization that offers creative writing workshops for women-identified writers of color. Her short story, “In the Aftermath,” was a finalist for the Missouri Review’s Jeffrey E. Smith Editor’s Prize and subsequently appeared in Granta. Her work has also been published in Citizen, The Catamaran Literary Journal, and Black Renaissance Noire, among others. She was a 2022 Hedgebrook writer-in-residence and was also named a Kimbilio Fellow for Black Fiction that same year. Freeman received a BA in English from Yale University and an MFA from the University of Maryland, College Park. She lives in Brooklyn with her family.
