Beata Grablevska

April 9, 2024

Where the Pines Cry (Memoir), The Hague, THE NETHERLANDS

(c) Svetlana Kulikova

Where the Pines Cry recounts my upbringing in Soviet Lithuania, shaped by scarcity and communist indoctrination until discovering my family’s harrowing history changes my perception of everything.

“My book aims to shed light on the lasting impact of the Soviet regime through a personal story and invite reflection on historical atrocities confronting the ongoing developments in Russia and the world.”

Beata is a Lithuanian of Polish descent who has lived for the last few decades in different countries in Europe and Africa, finally settling in The Hague in the Netherlands. She is multilingual and holds Master’s degrees in German/English and political sciences, but it’s the recent postgraduate journalism course at the London School of Journalism that gave her the confidence to focus entirely on her writing. She is a freelance copywriter and editor currently working on her first book.
