I Dared the Storms to Come (Poetry)

I Dared the Storms to Come is an ecopoetry collection in three parts that touches on climate, urban ecology, plant life, animal life, and the COVID-19 lockdown in New York City— a time in which many New Yorkers became engaged with local parks and the ecosystems we reside in.

“As climate disaster strikes on multiple fronts, humanity must examine our ecosystems and infrastructure. Many of the poems in this project raise awareness and consider mitigation of climate catastrophe.”

Emily Hockaday is the author of the full-length collections Blood Music, Harbor Editions 2025, In a Body, Harbor Editions 2023, and Naming the Ghost, Cornerstone Press 2022. She published six chapbooks and has had poems appear in numerous print and online journals, as well as anthologies including Wayfinding, Poets of Queens, and Braving the Body. Her poem “Uranium” was featured on RadioLab. Emily has received grants from the Queens Art Fund, Flushing Town Hall, the New York City Artist Corps, the de Groot Foundation, and Café Royal Cultural Foundation.
