Christopher Shipman

April 9, 2024

Brick by Brick (Poetry), Greensboro, NC

(c) RJ Hooker

Brick by Brick uses various styles of poetry to explore the tragic murder of my paternal grandmother and the generational grief left in its wake.

“As an example of one journey through grief, this project can provide a way to acknowledge, accept, and process the nuances and complexities of the family traumas in our lives.”

Christopher Shipman (he/him) lives on Eno, Sappony, & Shakori land in Greensboro, NC, where he teaches literature and creative writing at New Garden Friends School and plays drums in the garage rock band The Goodbye Horses. Recent work appears in Fence, New Orleans Review, POETRY, & elsewhere. His experimental play Metaphysique D’ Ephemera has been staged at four universities. He is the author or coauthor of six books and four chapbooks. In collaboration with Vincent Cellucci, Getting Away with Everything (Unlikely Books, 2021) is his most recent collection.
