Elizabeth C. Wellington Shares Asylum Seeker’s Stories

July 17, 2024

Congratulations to Elizabeth C. Wellington, one of our 2024 LANDO Writers of Note, for her work of creative nonfiction, The Asylum Seekers.

Testimonials and stories of asylum seekers in ICE detention centers, captured by an immigration interpreter, reveal unconscionable abuses in the prisons where they are detained.

Elizabeth’s experience as a translator at the FAO/United Nations has served her well in her present work as an immigration interpreter. The Asylum Seekers is her first attempt to capture true events as a work of creative nonfiction.

An exciting update from Elizabeth: ““A short story I developed from The Asylum Seekers was shortlisted by the Disquiet International Literary Program. Thanks to the LANDO grant and The de Groot Foundation I have been able to travel to Portugal for two weeks to attend!”
