Ellen Denny

March 11, 2024

Project Qyzra (Stage play), Toronto, Ontario, CANADA

Project Qyzra is a solo stage play in which I try to piece together the immigration case that led to my friend Qyzra’s deportation.

“I hope to use the communal theatre experience to illuminate the flawed systems entangling those who must leave their homes behind, and confront the institutional silence of Canada’s immigration system.“

Ellen Denny is a playwright and actor working across Canada. During the pandemic, she co-created the critically-acclaimed february: a love story, featured on CBC q and streamed by the Stratford Festival. Her play Take Care debuted at Here for Now Theatre and was featured in The New York Times. Her contemporary comedy Pleasureville premiered at Neptune Theatre. A Dora-nominated actor, Ellen was a Breakthrough Toronto Stage Artist 2017 (Now Magazine). Her solo play Project Qyzra is a previous finalist for the Cayle Chernin Award. Ellen received a BA and the University Medal for Theatre from Dalhousie University.
