Emma Barrow

April 9, 2024

Other Plans (Screenplay), Portland, OR

A Cherokee woman fights to protect her niece from an unlawful adoption by her white grandparents while reckoning with feeling distant from her own culture.

“I hope this film shows audiences the importance of keeping Indigenous families together and further contributes to positive contemporary representation of Indigenous people.”

Emma Barrow is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation. She is an award-winning writer and filmmaker with a BFA in Acting from California Institute of the Arts. Her writing often centers complex intergenerational family dynamics and strong Cherokee women. Emma was an ISA Top 25 Screenwriter to Watch 2023, a ISA FastTrack Fellow 2022, a Native American Media Alliance Feature Lab Fellow 2021, the NWSG Stowe Story Labs Fellow 2021 and a Native American Media Alliance TV Lab Fellow 2020. She hopes to write films that uplift her community and make them proud of how they are represented.
