Emmy Her Many Horses Writes Rez Kid Stories for Rez Kids

September 11, 2024

Meet Emmy Her Many Horses, a 2024 COURAGE to WRITE Writer of Note working on her climate fiction book, The Remembering

In The Remembering, Čuŋksi suddenly hears a voice in her head telling of the future to come, and the ancestral knowledge that can change it.

Emmy Her Many Horses is a Sicangu and Oglala Lakota writer, educator, musician, maker, and Auntie who hails from Oceti Sakowin Territory. Born and raised on the Rosebud Reservation of South Dakota, she writes rez kid stories for rez kids, refocusing the lens on the beauty of growing up in her homelands.

An exciting update from Emmy:“I am leaning into kinship as a larger part of the structure in The Remembering because it is foundational in telling a rez kid story. Cuŋksi is nothing without the matriarchs that come before her, so I’m building stronger connections to the women who come before her to tell her story.”
