Iris (Yi Youn) Kim

April 9, 2024

Before and After (Memoir), Los Angeles, CA

(c) Randy Shropshire

Before and After follows my coming-of-age MeToo story as I fall in love while struggling with PTSD, mend wounds with family, and navigate the deeply flawed legal system.

“Through Before and After, I wish challenge our conceptions of healing, justice, and liberation for Asian American victims of sexual violence.”

Iris (Yi Youn) Kim is a Los Angeles-based reporter at NBC News covering identity, politics, and culture. She previously worked in international TV development at HBO Max and as a producer at Wondery. Her work has appeared in Harper’s Bazaar, Electric Literature, Salon, Slate, and TIME. She is a 2022 PEN America Emerging Voices Fellow, a 2022 U.S.-South Korea Center for Public Diplomacy NextGen Creative Fellow, and a 2023 Gold House Futures Journalism Accelerator participant.
