The Guest People is a multi-generational immigrant novel about the Chinese community in Jamaica. The story is a fictionalized account of the life of Leslie Kong, a pioneering reggae producer, and his family’s response to his death in 1971––which was rumoured to be from a curse.
Jo Szilagyi is a recent graduate from the MSt in Creative Writing at Oxford University. Her short fiction has been commended by the New Voices Award from PEN Canada, where she was made an honourary member, the Oxford-BNU Award chaired by Nobel Laureate Mo Yan, and elsewhere. She is represented by Lisette Verhagen at Peters, Fraser, and Dunlop.
