Ejector Seat (Novel) set for publication by Transit Books

Ejector Seat is about the rise of autocracy in the U.S., the existential fears of the populous in the face of an unsteady future, and the race among citizens to secure a Plan B.

“By investigating responses to today’s polycrisis and future fears, my hope is that this book helps steer readers away from escapist bunker mentality and toward collective response.”

Lauren Markham is a California based-writer covering issues of migration, justice and the environment. Her work has appeared in outlets such as the Atlantic, Harper’s, The New York Review of Books, The New York Times Magazine and VQR, where she is a contributing editor. The author of an award-winning book about child migrants entitled The Far Away Brothers: Two Young Migrants and the Making of an American Life, she has also spent over fifteen years working at the intersection of education and immigration. Since receiving the LANDO Writer of Note award in 2023, Markham has gone on to publish two books, A Map of Future Ruins: On Borders and Belonging, a recipient of support from the de Groot Foundation which was a finalist for the California Book Award, The Northern California Book Award, and the runner up for the Dayton Literary Peace Prize, and Immemorial, which was longlisted for the Pen America Jean Stein Award.
