Meet Leo Ríos, a 2024 COURAGE to WRITE Grantee working on his short story collection, Carta Blanca.
A Mexican-American teenager journeys from California’s Central Valley to Los Angeles and must recover from old wounds of violence and illness.
“I hope readers will appreciate and empathize with the book’s real-world themes: English/Spanish bilingualism, Mexican immigrant families, and our community’s capacity for change, growth, and healing.”
Leo is a fiction writer originally from the Central Valley of California. A recent recipient of a MacDowell Fellowship, he teaches writing at the University of Arizona. He can be found online at leo-rios.com.
An exciting update from Leo: “I’ve been working with my agent, Rayhané Sanders at Massie & McQuilken, to polish the manuscript and push it toward completion. I hope readers will appreciate and empathize with the book’s real-world themes: English/Spanish bilingualism, Mexican immigrant families, and our community’s capacity for change, growth, and healing.”
