Sabina Vajrača

For Buraz (Screenplay), Los Angeles, CA

(c) Joshua Sarlo

For Buraz is a neo-noir crime drama about Bosnian War refugees who came here as children, and where their chase of the American Dream has led them.

“I hope FOR BURAZ helps non-Bosnians understand the complexity of the Bosnian refugee experience, and gives my fellow Bosnian-Americans a way to finally confront and heal our collective trauma.”

Born in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sabina Vajrača immigrated to the U.S. as a war refugee. She’s a screenwriter and film director focusing on character-driven stories about her Bosnian-American and other marginalized communities through the lens of philosophy and self-reflection. Her latest screenplay SEVAP/MITZVAH – a true story of a Muslim woman saving her Jewish friends in WWII Bosnia – won the Humanitas Prize and Claims Conference Grant. Sabina’s an alumna of Almanack Screenwriters, Hayama Residency, and Stowe Story Labs, a member of Film Fatales and BAFTA, and holds an M.F.A. from the USC School of Cinematic Arts.
