Radish Women (Poetry), Columbus, OH

(c) Emma Parker

The poetry collection, Radish Women, celebrates female power and community through the lens of Japanese women farmers and their labor during World War Two.

“I created Radish Women to elevate women’s labor and to empower women to connect with their ancestors, their communities, and themselves.”

Sayuri Matsuura Ayers is the daughter of Japanese and Chinese immigrants. Her poetry and essays explore her ancestral lines and have been featured on The Poetry Foundation website and in TriQuarterly, Gulf Stream Magazine, Parentheses Journal, and Raising Mothers. Sayuri is the author of three collections of poetry: The Woman, The River (forthcoming from Porkbelly Press), Mother/Wound (Full/Crescent Press, 2020), and Radish Legs, Duck Feet (Green Bottle Press, 2016). Her collection of prose, The Maiden in the Moon, was published by Porkbelly Press in 2023. A Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net nominee, Sayuri has been supported by Kundiman, Yaddo, The Virginia Center for Creative Arts, The Ohio Arts Council, and The Greater Columbus Arts Council. She lives with her husband and son in the MidWest.
