continuum (Poetry), Lancaster, PA

(c) Rae Leone Allen

continuum is a poetry + photography project that seeks to restage, reimagine and restore the seen and unseen relationship between the Black body and nature.

“I hope that my poetry collection invites readers to honor their own sources of connection to, but also to think about their alienation from, the elements of nature around them.”

I write because I want memory to be as whole as possible. I listen and write towards the conflation of the past and present. continuum is my debut collection of eco-poetry, and it seeks to restage, reimagine and restore both the mythical (story) and the material (nature) as sites of memory. Because my encounters with nature continue to be shaped by time, which is a medium of memory, I use both poetry and photography to document the seen and unseen relationship between the Black body and nature; namely waterbodies, soil, trees, plant life, and air.
