Stephanie DeGooyer Explores the Global Asylum System

July 15, 2024

Congratulations to Stephanie DeGooyer, one of our 2024 LANDO Grantees, for her nonfiction work Offshore: The Rise and Fall of Asylum.

Offshore: The Rise and Fall of Asylum foretells the unraveling of the global asylum system and return to the colonial practice of offshoring unwanted populations.

Stephanie is a Canadian writer and professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill who writes about immigration, migration, and human rights from comparative and historical perspectives.

An exciting update from Stephanie: “I’ve spent the last ten days in Copenhagen interviewing refugees and experts about Denmark’s new asylum policies and their impact on the rest of Europe.”
