Sukie Wilson Wins 2024 Desperate Literature Short Fiction Prize!

August 7, 2024

Congratulations to Sukie Wilson, winner of the 2024 Desperate Literature Short Fiction Prize, for “Leaving Night Country”.

‘From the first paragraph, “Leaving Night Country” catches us with its incredible narrative voice. Wilson has a keen sense of music and rhythm. We are left with a sense of wonder.’ — MEGAN MCDOWELL, 2024 Judge

As this year’s winner, Wilson will receive prize money, a week-long residency at the Civitella Ranieri artist’s retreat in Umbria, Italy, a manuscript assessment through The Literary Consultancy, and publication in Eleven Stories 2024.

The 2024 Runners-up include Amanda Hildebrandt’s “No Safe Place” and Richie Jones’ “Nuggy Spins the Lemons”.

You can read all of the shortlisted stories in Desperate Literature’s Eleven Stories 2024, available in PDF and print HERE.
