Yevheniia Dubrova Spans Ukraine’s History and Displacement

July 8, 2024

Congratulations to Yevheniia Dubrova, one of our 2024 LANDO Grantees, for her short story collection What Remains: Stories.

What Remains: Stories is a collection of short fiction spanning the past hundred years of Ukraine’s history and exploring displacement, loss, memory, and what endures.

Having experienced war and displacement at the age of thirteen, Yevheniia became particularly interested in ways in which individuals and communities confront or learn to accept different forms of violence and loss. She will be starting her MFA in creative writing at Vanderbilt University in the fall, where she will continue working on this collection of stories.

An exciting update from Yevheniia: “My stories formed a bulk of my honors thesis in creative writing at Dartmouth College. I’ve been awarded High Honors for this project as well as the Sidney Cox Prize given annually to the strongest creative writing thesis at Dartmouth.”
